It's been nearly two months since I had an operation to remove the plate and screws fixing my ankle. I'm not in any pain, but as I have to follow a 12-week antibiotics therapy, my digestive system is suffering. I have to swallow six antibiotic tablets a day, as well as anticoagulants and anti-inflammatories. To compensate, I take a probiotic, yeast to regulate my intestinal flora.
In the meantime, I've moved back into my flat. The kitchen and bathroom renovations are complete. A fortnight ago, my cousin and his wife helped me tidy up. With the change in the layout of the appliances, it was impossible to rearrange the dishes as before, but my cousin's wife organised the tidying very well, which was a great help.
Although the workmen had installed a dust barrier, it didn't prevent a thin layer of dust from seeping into the flat. So I had to clean everything thoroughly. Fortunately, Denniz came to help me and cleaned everything to the last detail. I'm very grateful to him for that.
A lot of my friends thought the choice of colours for the kitchen was audacious, but now that it's finished, I think the combination of ash grey and red is a success. However, using the new appliances requires a thorough reading of the manuals. The induction hob offers many possibilities, and its size is very practical. The oven offers a multitude of functions; I'll have to explore the manual further. The dishwasher also has numerous wash programmes, some of which can be downloaded from the internet. Only the fridge and freezer are easy to use. All these appliances are connected to the Internet via WiFi and can be controlled via a smartphone app!
As for the bathroom, it's rather ‘classic’, but I really like the rain shower, which I can use while sitting on a bathroom stool. Yesterday, the glass partition between the shower and the rest of the room was installed. Apart from the cabinet above the induction hob, which has to be replaced due to a delivery error, the renovation work is now complete, and I'm pleased with the result. The various companies have all done an excellent job!
On Wednesday, I had an appointment with my surgeon and the rest of the medical team. After another X-ray and the replacement of my cast, we discussed the next steps. This morning, I received the papers from the hospital. On 16 January, I'll be going to hospital for a bone biopsy to check that there are no more Staphylococci bacteria in my ankle. I'll be staying overnight. As soon as the results are in (probably early February), I'll go back to hospital for a seventh operation.
In the meantime, on 20 December, an MRI will be carried out to obtain a 3D view of my ankle, which will help the surgeons to refine their surgical plan.
